The J Street Companies congratulates Chairman Bruce Baschuk and his wife, Kate Baschuk, on being honored by WINNERS Lacrosse at the organization’s 20th Annual Golf Outing held on September 19th, 2019. Mr. Baschuk, who founded WINNERS Lacrosse in October 2000, achieved tremendous success in providing Washington, DC boys and girls from underserved neighborhoods the opportunity to learn the game of lacrosse and the life skills associated with playing a team sport. “Through their leadership, vision and hard work, Bruce and Kate have enabled WINNERS Lacrosse to impact thousands of lives,” said WINNERS Lacrosse Executive Director, Matt Breslin. “Our success is directly tied to the Baschuk family and their foresight and we are very excited to celebrate them and the program they created 20 years ago.”
“Kate and I are incredibly honored to be recognized by WINNERS Lacrosse and are constantly amazed at the passion and good work accomplished by our friends on the Board, the staff and and by all of the partners, sponsors and contributors over the years,” said J Street Chairman, Bruce Baschuk. “I want to also thank the DC commercial real estate industry – and some of our longtime CRE leaders - for their strong support and sponsorship of this event and the WINNERS programs.”
Commercial real estate sponsors included Akridge, Buch Construction, CBRE, COPT, Cushman & Wakefield, Eagle Bank, JBG SMITH, JLL, Lincoln Property Company, McCullough Construction, McWilliams Ballard, Newmark Knight Frank, Quadrangle, Rand Construction Corporation, Peterson Companies, Rappaport and Urban Pace, among many.
Bruce Baschuk began lacrosse as a senior in high school at Trinity Pawling in New York and has stayed involved in the game ever since, playing at the college level at Alfred University and locally with the Alexandria Lacrosse Club, which was founded by WINNERS Chairman, Tom McHugh. When he ended his playing career, he served as an assistant coach at Gonzaga for three years, before starting and coaching a youth team within the MYLA league. In 2000, Bruce organized a varsity program at Archbishop Carroll High School (ACHS) in the District, where he went on to coach from 2000 to 2005. Some current WINNERS Lacrosse board members were members of those teams. At the same time he established a program at ACHS, he created the non-profit WINNERS Lacrosse with the objective to bring the game to boys and girls in the urban core through clinics and team play to mentor youth through the sport. Bruce also co-founded the BRIDGE Lacrosse program, which brought similar programs as WINNERS together from around the country under the US Lacrosse banner and served as their representative on the US Lacrosse Youth Council for three years.
